With the Opalescence take-home whitening kit, you will see a difference after the first 1-3 applications. Some patients have even reported seeing a difference after the first application. 

It may take up to two weeks to apply at-home treatments with Opalescence.

How Do You Use The Opalescence Whitening Kit? 

Using an Opalescence whitening kit will depend on the version and product your dentist gives you based on your teeth whitening needs. 

You may only be asked to leave in a tray for 15 minutes, or you may be asked to leave a tray overnight. It all depends on the product. 

 Be sure to go over how to use the kit you are taking home from your dentist while at the office. 

Here are three tips when using an Opalescence whitening kit at home; 

  1. Refrigerate: The gel needs to be refrigerated. And before using, it needs to be set out and brought to room temperature. 
  2. Avoid: Tobacco use when using the whiting kit.
  3. X-Rays: Be sure your dentist has X-rays on file that are up to date. If you have none, get X-rays before using the take-home kit. 

Do I Brush My Teeth After Using Opalescence?

Before you start the application process, you will want to brush your teeth. 

In addition, after using Opalescence and having removed the tray from your mouth, brushing your teeth is advised. 

You’ll also want to wash out the tray using mild soap and water. You should use a soft bristle toothbrush.  

If the excess gel is in your mouth after the tray is removed and you have brushed your teeth, spit it out. 

Swallowing excess gel is not recommended.
