The Good News About Invisalign Dental Emergencies

The good news about dental emergencies that involve invisalign, is that they are not a dental emergency where you are bound to be in pain, bleeding, or experiencing any swelling. You will not have to worry about the emergency room either. So with those worries no longer on your mind for an invisalign dental emergency, let’s look at what to do . . .

First Aid: What do I do if my Invisalign Retainer Breaks?

If your invisalign retainer breaks here are steps to follow:

  1. Contact: Contact your dental office where you are receiving Invisalign treatments. This may be with a cosmetic dentist like Dr. Lewandowski  or an orthodontist.
  2. Set: Set an emergency dental appointment to get a new Invisalign retainer made.
  3. Go: Go to your emergency dental appointment to get a new retainer so you can continue your invisalign treatments.

What if an Invisalign retainer cracks? If this happens, don’t be alarmed. Invisalign retainers are both durable and sturdy, but anything that works upto 22 hours a day has the potentiality of cracking from wear. Simply follow the same three steps above to keep your teeth straightening on track.

First Aid: What to do if I Break a Wire on my Wires

If you have a wire If you find yourself with a broken braces wire, call your dentist for an emergency dental visit to fix it.

What should you do while you wait for your emergency dental visits to fix a loose or broken bridge?

If a broken braces wire can be removed with ease: Remove it, and go to your emergency dental appointment to correct the missing wire.

If a broken braces wire  cannot be removed with ease it is poking you in the mouth with sharp points:

Use either chewing gum or cotton balls to cover the sharp edges. This will not only protect your gums but also the insides of our cheeks from the sharpness of broken wires while you wait to be seen at your emergency dental visit before your scheduled emergency dental visit.

What if a Broken Braces Wire is Stuck?

There are three areas where a broken braces wire can get stuck:

  1. Tongue
  2. Cheek
  3. Gums

If this happens to you:

Leave the wire where it is. Do not touch it. Removing the wire from the area where it is stuck in through is not suggested or recommended. Insead, call your dentist for an emergency dental visit. Have someone call for you if it is too difficult to speak to explain what is happening and make the emergency dental appointment.
